ASQ Lean Six Sigma Conference Helps Businesses Weather Economic Storm

Lean-6 The economy isn’t getting any better and organizations are still being asked to cut, cut, cut. Given that economic climate, a strategy to implement is a Lean and Lean Six Sigma culture in an effort to hold back costs. The American Society for Quality (ASQ) is hosting the 2009 Lean Six Sigma Conference, March 2–3, 2009, at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort, Phoenix, Ariz., to teach professionals needed skills to take back to their organizations.

Six Sigma Master Black Belt to Speak

As director of process and performance excellence at the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (DTCC), Jason Gerros will be giving all attendees a lesson in Kaizen 101. The DTCC provides clearance, settlement, and information services for equities, corporate and municipal bonds, government and mortgage-backed securities, money market instruments and over-the-counter derivatives. Gerros will share how to use kaizen in service industries from DTCC’s approach and implementation of an extensive and enterprise-wide deployment of this very effective improvement tool Monday, March 2 at 4:45 p.m.

Gerros is a Certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt. He has worked as a quality technician and senior manufacturing engineer, and has worked in high technology manufacturing for medical devices. He has also consulted on lean operations for various organizations.

Lockheed Martin Exec Shares Insight

Larry Pike, vice president of quality and mission success for Lockheed Martin, will address attendees Tuesday, March 3 at 8:00 a.m. He’ll touch on Lockheed Martin’s Lean Six Sigma program, LM21 Operational Excellence. Thousands of opportunities for improvement have been realized through this program.

Pike is responsible for the leadership of all quality functions throughout aeronautics at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company. This includes ensuring that all suppliers and subcontractors comply with Lockheed Martin’s customer and industry standards, specifications, and requirements. A loyal employee since 1979, Pike’s previous roles include serving as vice president of production/quality processes, vice president and deputy of production operations and director of material operations within Lockheed Martin’s material management sector.

Organizational Change That Sticks

Michael Stanleigh, a popular and entertaining speaker, will get the crowd revved up during his presentation on Tuesday, March 3 at 4:00 p.m. He’ll provide compelling and entertaining insights to help make certain that improvements and changes that are made at an organization truly stick.

Stanleigh is a professional management consultant and the CEO of Business Improvement Architects. He helps clients increase productivity and profits with clear processes and quality approaches. He also holds faculty positions at ASQ and Memorial University of Newfoundland. He has been featured and published in more than 500 different magazines and industry publications.

Grow Your Organization Through Lean

This year’s conference will focus on sustaining the culture of Lean Six Sigma. ASQ is offering its largest conference program yet of sessions—more than 45—from which attendees can choose.
