Microsoft Corp. today kicked off its second annual Microsoft Business Intelligence (BI) Conference 2008 by announcing groundbreaking new technologies that will enable enterprises to bring the power of BI to information workers organization wide.
The company introduced new managed self-service analysis capabilities code-named “Project Gemini,” and self-service reporting upcoming in the next release of Microsoft SQL Server focused on BI — code-named “Kilimanjaro.” Alongside this Microsoft will also deliver advanced data warehousing functionality being developed under the project code-named “Madison.” These new tools will empower companies to extend the benefits of BI across their ranks to information workers with minimal reliance on IT to help drive smarter, quicker decision-making, free up IT staff for more valuable activities, and dramatically drive down deployment costs.

The Computer Measurement Group (CMG), the IT professionals responsible for planning, measuring and managing the world’s largest IT infrastructures, announced today that it has finalized its set of Sunday workshop sessions for the 34th International Computer Measurement Group annual conference (CMG’08) taking place from December 7-12 in Las Vegas, NV at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel.
CMG’08 starts on Sunday, December 7 with an entire day dedicated to focused, three hour seminars that deepen the CMG’08 experience. Sunday workshops provide additional insights into the areas of performance management for Multi-Tier applications, Websphere MQ, Java, .NET, SQL Server and Storage Area Networks. Other workshops address techniques such as capacity management using free and bundled software as well as performance issues relating to Service-Oriented and Enterprise Service Bus architectures and patterns.
Two workshops will provide essential information regarding ITIL. The workshop presenters are luminaries in their fields who, in some cases, did seminal work in their area of expertise. itSMF USA has announced that it will host the Society for Information Management San Francisco Bay Chapter’s monthly program at its annual Fusion Conference in San Francisco at the Moscone Center on Monday, September 8th, from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
