Just saying you know something isn’t gonna just work. I have coworkers here that say they know stuff, well prove it by getting certified. If you know the stuff then what is the problem?

Read and study everything you can find on management. Ask to shadow a manager or ask for a mentor. Make sure management knows of your aspirations. If a lead or Supervisor positions are used prepare yourself for those. Management positions are often hand picked. You have to do everything you can to make yourself stand out and show that you have the drive and soft skills to be in management. Best of luck to you!

It becomes problematic in the current situation, where experience trumps all education and certification. For instance I am a system administrator who has two master degrees and 13 certifications. Ideally I should be in management, however because I have no management experience I am never given the opportunity. I think this will change soon, but it has been a frustrating experience with a growing family and obligations.
